Cascadia Composers Spring Concert showcases the variety and depth we are known for as we continue to artistically process the times will live in and

reemerge, revitalized and reenergized!
Please join us on Saturday, May 14th, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. at Lincoln Hall,

Room 75 on the Portland State University Campus.

Enjoy new works from Cascadia Composers Daniel Brugh, I’Lana S. Cotton, Noam Faingold, Brian Field, Theresa Koon, Lisa Neher, Gary Lloyd Noland, Timothy Arliss O’Brien, Paul Safar, Greg A Steinke, Drew Swatosh, Kirsten Volness, Jennifer Wright and Nicholas Yandell.

A multitude of talented musicians including Onry, Diane Chaplin, Anthony Dyer, Maria Garcia, Asya Gulua, Ben Milstein, and Rebecca Stager as well as dancers Kiel Moton and Joshua Big SnubB Dudley join in this kaleidoscope of colorful collaborations.

Themes of struggle, recharging and awakening connect these timely works which are enhanced through video, painting, dance and actors. We hope you can share in this exciting concert of new music from Cascadia Composer members!

Cascadia Composers: Crossing Paths

Cascadia Composers is excited to announce the opening concert of its 2021-2022 season: Crossing Paths—New Music of Healing and Renewal. This unique concert experience will be our first live event in many months and will take place at the Leach Botanical Garden on Sunday, September 26th at 5 p.m.

Audience members may stroll the woodland grounds in a comtemplative setting between musical ensembles and sound installations creating an atmosphere of meditation and reflection. Hear soothing and upbeat performances by Justin Bulava, clarinet, Amelia Lukas, flute, Alexis Mahler, violin Hannah Penn, mezzo-soprano, Kate Petak, harp and Dylan Rieck, cello.

Soak in new sounds from composers David Bernstein, Antonio Celaya, Jay Derderian, Theresa Koon, Kevin Bryant Lay, Mei-ling Lee, Lisa Marsh, Jan Mittelstaedt, Paul Safar, Walter Saul, Greg A Steinke, Mark Vigil and Linda Woody.

Gate opens at 4 p.m. with the music beginning at 5 p.m.

NACUSA 2021 Virtual New Music Festival

Cascadia Composers, the Northwest chapter of the National Association of Composers USA (NACUSA), in partnership with Lewis & Clark College, will host NACUSA’s biennial conference as a virtual experience with all events held online for the very first time in the organization’s 87 year history. The conference is open to the public and offers abundant opportunities to experience the hottest trends and most captivating techniques in modern classical music through six days of concerts and presentations.

Spanning three weekends beginning Saturday, April 17th, The NACUSA 2021 Virtual New Music Festival will present online lectures (starting at 3:30 p.m. PDT) and concerts (starting at 5:00 p.m. PDT). Featured artists in the festival include the dazzling piano duo Stephanie and Saar, the Evergreen Experimental Music Ensemble (from The Evergreen State College,WA) and Lewis and Clark College’s resident new music ensemble, Friends of Rain. Chamber, choral, percussion and electro acoustic new music by both established and young composers from across the country will be featured throughout this wildly varied new music festival!

There’s no charge to view concerts or lectures, but your donation helps us create events like this.
